In Science class, I made the introduction to the 5 senses to the kids of 1st grade. The understood the main concepts of each sense and after some weeks working a little on them, they elaborated a poster in groups about all the 5 senses. Finally, the posters were sticked on the wall of their class.
We are two English teachers and the principal of San juan de La Cruz school. It is a small familiar school located in Ripollet (Barcelona). We teach Kindergarten and Primary kids. Since four years ago we teach Science in English, however it just an hour per week. But this current year (2016-2017) it is thaught like a full English subject.

Prehistoric necklaces workshop
In Projects class, kids from 1st and 2nd grade did a workshop in english. The activity was about to create their own prehistoric necklace with rope, mud and a shell.
Every child created the shapes they liked with the mud and the next week they put the little pieces into the piece of rope.
The result was amazing and they could bring their prehistoric necklaces to home!
The five senses in 2nd grade
Last term, kids from 2nd grade learnt more about the 5 senses in Science lessons. At the end of the unit, they created a little poster about each of the senses and they did an oral presentation in groups.
Here you are the process and the result of it!
Playing "Memory" in Projects class
The first term of the this course we worked with 1st Kids Stage the Project about The Prehistory and they could learn different vocabulary about objects and things from that period playing the game of "Memory".
They enjoyed so much and they learnt a lot of things about The Prehistory!!

Plants project in 2nd grade
Kids from 2nd grade have been 2 weeks working in a project about plants. They already know a lot of things about them so they created their own plant and wrote all the different parts and explained what they need to grow up. Also, they drew it in a big poster and did an oral presentation in front of the rest of the pupils.
Density experiment
Kids from 3rd grade have learnt what "density" is. In Science class, kids helped me to make an experiment to demonstrate that all liquids have different density and we made some hypotesis about what would happen if we put in a same pot water, oil and alcohol.
Some of them said all the 3 liquids would mix together, some of them said just water and alcohol would mix and others said all 3 liquids would stay separated.
So we did the experiment in class, and as water and alcohol are both transparent, we coloured water with colour red and alcohol with colour blue.
For the experiment, we needed:
- 2 plastic glasses
- Bottle of oil
- Bottle of alcohol 96º
- Water
- Blue and red food colouring
- Spoons
First, we coloured the water with red food colouring. Then, we coloured alcohol with blue food colouring. Then, we added in the water glass, the oil and we could see this liquid floats on the water. Later, we added carefully the alcohol in the same glass and we could see this liquid floats on the oil and on the water.
The result, as you can see, was successful! We had in a glass 3 different liquids, separated by colours red, yellow and blue.
So kids learnt that water has more density than oil and alcohol and that makes them float on it.
They enjoyed the lesson a lot!!!
Experiments in 1st grade
This week in 1st grade, pupils have been working about materials and we have done some experiments all together. They could smell, touch and see different objects and materials and we could see some reactions and different mixtures.
Kids enjoyed it so much and now they want to try to do it in their homes!
